Ringling College Receives Grants From Sarasota County Community Foundation
Ringling College of Art and Design recently announced that it has received two grants totaling $ 25,000 from the Sarasota County Community Foundation to support its Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) and the production of the Collective Narrative Project of the CDI. The Community Impact and Equity and Access grants reflect the Community Foundation’s commitment to improving programs that serve under-represented and geographically underserved populations.
CDI’s Collective Narrative Project is a multidisciplinary, intergenerational multimedia framework that raises awareness of social justice issues while elevating, celebrating and uplifting marginalized voices through the arts, education and dialogue.
CDI received an initial grant of $ 10,000 from the McCauley-Brown Community Foundation Fund as well as a $ 15,000 equity and access grant to support Violet Stripes from the CDI Narrative Collective Project, a film that has brought together an intergenerational LGBTQ group of Ringling College students and local residents to share stories from their individual journeys.
The $ 15,000 Equity and Access grant supported the Narrative Collective Project’s second documentary film project, called Warriors of Sarasota: Powerful women of color in Sarasota, a multi-part documentary and gallery project showcasing the stories of women of color in Sarasota who strive to improve community and change systemic oppression and other social injustices within Sarasota-Manatee communities.
