President Jill M. Baren is the fourteenth president of Lake Forest College.
Appointed in the spring of 2022, Dr. Baren officially started in July 2022. She is the first female president of the College.
Dr. Baren brings nearly 30 years of experience in major academic, research, and administrative leadership roles at the University of Pennsylvania and University of the Sciences to the position of President of Lake Forest College.
An inspirational leader, Dr. Baren’s background is centered in humanism, medical ethics, experiential education, diversity, equity and inclusion, and a strong belief in the liberal arts.
She has published over 90 scientific papers, written several books in the field of emergency medicine, and worked collaboratively to secure millions of dollars in support and grants over the past 15 years. Additionally, she has considerable classroom experience, having taught at UCLA, Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of the Sciences.
Dr. Baren’s education began at Brown University, where she studied biochemistry in preparation for medical school. She then earned her MD from the University of Pittsburgh with postgraduate clinical training at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She then pursued a Master of Science in Medical Ethics from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as an MBA from Brandeis University.
She and her family live in Lake Forest, Illinois.
