Lake Erie College Board Chairman Stephen Perry and his wife Felicia donated $1.2 million for scholarships.
The gift will be used to establish the Stephen B. and Felicia M. Perry Scholarship Fund and will be awarded to high-achieving students from middle-class families with interests in business, science, or education. education, according to a press release. .
“Steve recognizes the struggle that some students from middle to upper class families have paying for their college education, as they may have less or no access to federal and state grants,” LEC President Brian Posler said in the communicated.
The new scholarship fund aims to fill the gap between what a middle-income family can afford and the help Lake Erie College can typically provide. The scholarships will be renewable for four years and will allow the college to strengthen this pool of talented students beginning with the fall class of 2022, the statement said.
“Obviously, a gift like Steve and Felicia’s changes the lives of scholarship-supported students, but equally, if not more importantly, it begins to improve the sustainability of our institution,” Posler added in the statement. “A donation of this size is the largest gift in recent history.”
Stephen Perry, who earned his college business and accounting degrees, spent the last 24 years of his career at Linsalata Capital Partners where he most recently served as long-term co-chairman and senior managing director.
“Felicia and I are thrilled to support my alma mater and her current students,” Stephen Perry said in the statement. “Giving back is important to us and we are grateful to be able to do so for Lake Erie College.
