Description of the Centre: Educational Multimedia Research Centre at the University of  Calicut is the only Centre of its kind to be set up  in Kerala  with the full assistance of the  University Grants Commission. The Centre sanctioned during the IX^th Plan, became operational in September 1998.  As envisaged by the UGC, the Centre has been set up as a non-vacation academic department with the primary objectives of (i) producing audio-visual  programmes for the UGC Countrywide Classroom (CWCR) for broadcast on Doordarshan network and (ii) conducting research in the hardware and software aspects of audio visual technology.  The centre is producing e-content programmes for 9 allocated subjects- Mathematics, Epigraphy, Education, Philosophy, Library Sciences, Theatre Arts, Fine Arts, Multimedia and Bioinformatics under the CEC-NME-ICT project.  In addition, the Centre functions as a node of the UGC’s Edusat network and also contributes to the training to University/College teachers in e-content development. The centre is also conducting  training programmes, seminars and workshops for student and teaching communities.

Any Additional Achevement of the Centre:

The centre is producing e-content programmes with appropiate video and graphics  that  go beyond the textbooks, to update, upgrade and enrich the teachers and students  with a multidisciplinary approach.  The various documentaries of the centre  centre won 18 national level, 3 state level awards and entry to many international documentary film festivals. More than 350 educational programmes have been produced in the center till the date.
